Lalla Ward

Richard Dawkins is married to Lalla Ward

Lalla Ward is an actress and animal artist. Her roles have included Ophelia in the BBC TV production of Hamlet, the young Queen Elizabeth in "The Prince and the Pauper", and the daughter of "The Duchess of Duke Street", but she is best known as Dr Who's Companion. As an artist she has illustrated books by Lance Percival, Bruce Fogel, Richard Dawkins (River out of Eden, Climbing Mount Improbable), and herself. Her own books include Lalla Ward's Countryside Embroidery Book, an instruction manual illustrated by her own embroideries of British birds. These embroideries were made for her bestselling calendar for the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. She also won the commission to do the 1985 Shell Calendar, which she did in an innovative way as embroidered seabirds on a painted background. She is now at work on a series of paintings inspired by the Oxford University Museum of Natural History.
