Using the PubMed MEDLINE search engine to search for citations on molecular evolution

How to use the MEDLINE browser:

1) go here for the search entry form: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/Entrez/medline.html

2) Change the "Search Field" from "Text Terms" to "MeSH terms" or the even better "MeSH Major Topic" (MeSH means look in subject keywords)

3) Change the "Search Mode" field from "Automatic" to "List Terms".

4) Enter the search term: "evolution" and press "Search"

5) From the result listbox click on "evolution" and "evolution molecular" YOU WILL NEED TO HOLD THE CONTROL KEY DOWN to select both!

6) press the "Select" button.

7) Optional: If you want, under "Add Terms to Query" enter the SPECIFIC sub-item to search for, for example try typing in "immune system". Press "Search"

8) From the results listbox select the most appropriate one(s) and press "Select"

9) Retreive the articles for viewing!

To submit a citation/article/web page to me:

For MEDLINE citations, send me the MEDLINE ID of the citation. This is the numbers in square brackets under the title, for example:

Please feel free to ask me for help, or to offer suggestions. I believe together we can build a great resource, and continue to build on it in the future.

Thank you,
John Catalano
